Forest, Forestt, Foresst,
What I believe you are failing to see is the primary force behind my insistence.
safety safety safety.
As you will actually see on your own convenient diagrams, the distance to travel for both routes remains exactly the same, 7.1 miles, which by the way does provide an obvious loop-hole in your entire argument, but I'm willing to let that go for the sake of argument.
What does change is the time it takes to transverse this distance, primary reason? It is common knowledge that almost every major intersection on James St. has a stop sign. In a car this can prove to be rather irritating, yet surprisingly fair as four way stops always are. But when one is traveling by bike in the evening, near dusk when light is fading they provide a safer avenue for crossing town. Riley is a notoriously long road with very few stop signs going east to west which leads to all the young people speeding down and spinning off north or south very quickly and perhaps taking out a seemingly meandering biker.
So Forrest, although your geometry may be fool proof you remain, unfortunately, not programmed to love; not even yourself.

Well played, Ms. Brown. Well played, indeed.
